These still life works are part of a long, ongoing series that is the result of my fascination with the concentric circles or ellipses and curving shapes of light and shadow inherent in these simple objects. They are also part of my involvement with the idea of the sacred in the everyday, with cups, saucers, spoons, and bowls being objects we all intimately relate to and which connect us through daily rituals of sustenance. This series was among the first in which I began to use collage references to everyday life. Some of these paintings contain references to work life, some are more domestic in feel.
